Map Files Before You Move
A filesystem is a map of named locations. Builders first identify where they are, what they are allowed to touch, and what must be preserved. Safe habits include reading paths carefully, avoiding broad delete commands, and keeping generated output separate from source and data.
Objectives
- Explain absolute and relative paths
- Use listing commands safely
- Separate source, data, and generated artifacts
Worked Example
Run pwd to see the current directory, ls to list visible files, and mkdir -p work/notes to create a contained practice area.Guided Exercise
Write the three commands you would use to show your current folder, create a practice folder, and list it without deleting anything.
